Today Fight Back New York denounces offensive statements made by anti-gay extremists, which called Fight Back NY's campaign research project to bring more clarity to Ruben Diaz’ past "Nazi-esque" and went so far as to label Fight Back NY “the gay Gestapo."
Anti-gay extremist group New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms launched this wildly inappropriate statement in support of Diaz yesterday in, response to Fight Back New York's announcement that it would be thoroughly researching Diaz's record. Additionally, Diaz released his own statement, asking that people pray for senators opposed to marriage equality–including Hiram Monserrate, who was expelled from the state senate following a conviction on domestic assault charges. Fight Back NY helped ensure that Monserrate did not win back his seat in the senate after a special election this March.
"Fight Back New York is a campaign to win full legal equality for all New Yorkers," said Fight Back New York spokesperson Sarah Kennedy. "To compare that effort to a regime that executed Jews and gay people in the Holocaust is disgusting. So is defending and supporting a convicted domestic abuser like Hiram Monserrate. Ruben Diaz should immediately denounce these anti-Semitic remarks, but we don't expect it from the Minister of Hate. It's one more reason why he's totally unfit for public office in New York."
